Hammerheads, Racoons, Eagles, Artifical Reef and Opelu (No Hammerhead Photo once again.....arrrrgh!)

OTEC Drift for life!!! Hammerhead photo next time, it didn't come close enough for any short of a shot and it was swimming against the current so I didn't have a choice to try and follow it at all. This was a much needed dive.......

Busy Busy.........What can I say I have gone from being a total bum not working for 5 months and living on the beach to working 6 and 7 days a week slaving away for the man so I can pay for a little box to live in. Arrrrrrgh!!! It seems to be one or the other here on the Big Island. Well I'm about half way to losing my mind. Where the fuck is the happy median!

Oooooooooo Scary....

Well we are now living in Obamanation. My Israeli predictions are turning out to be pretty right on (lets see how far they take it in the next few). I finally am a working man and it is not that sweet but that's OK.

I rescued an old timer yesterday when I was diving on big island divers boat; We get flagged down by this guy on an outrigger canoe that once we approach him he yells of that he has found a body in the water. I'm thinking at the moment that its a dead body but it turns out not to be the case. The adrift person is a 70ish year old little japanese man whose inflatable kayak has deflated on him about one and a half miles of shore and has was predicted to had been treading water for an hour of so before being found by the paddler. He was extremely exhausted and beginning stages of hypothermia were setting in. The guy was totally incoherant and really weak so I jumped into the water and pulled him back to are boat to be lifted out and warmed up. We called an ambulance and cruised to the Kailua Pier so he could be taken to the hospital. Apparently he called Big Island Divers today and said he didn't remember being found by the paddler and only remembered bits and pieces of being on the boat. Crazy day if I might say...........

I've been running around a bit these last few weeks trying to get some stuff accomplished with the hopes of a new job. Unfortunately I came up short once again in that game and I am back on the hunt for something else. So I will be coming home for Christmas on the 17th and am looking forward to it. Well I'm off to the doctor to try and get a new prescription of my inhaler but will drop some more lines in the next few. Until then, enjoy the new photos.

A pretty mellow week out and about on the lovely Big Island. It started out with me making a nice long trek to Makalawena last monday, which definitely seems longer than I remember it. I walk it at night, which has its pros and cons, but I think I favor it better than the hot sun of the day. I have a very small chance of being picked up by someone but it is very cool even chilly the later in the walk it gets. Surf picked up once I moved north a bit and I found a bodyboard at Kua Bay on one of my water runs to Kua Bay which was a nice mix up for stuff to do. I got in a couple of dives this week at Otec and Puako, which felt gret to get back into the diving since I haven't been breathing underwater in about two weeks. I should of mention it last week, but I did finally, after two years, finish The Brothers Karamazov and it is definitely the greatest and most enjoyable piece of literature I have ever read in my life. I then read As I Lay Dying this week and it was pretty solid but seemed much like a short story since getting off the Dostoevsky band wagon. I am almost through In Our Time by Hemingway and then onto Cormac Mcarthy's first novel The Orchard Keeper. Well her are some shots for the week, enjoy ;)

Week Won!!!

Back from my first week of being out in the bush and it went pretty well. Couple busted up toes and some gnarly blisters but I'll get over it I think. I spent Three days down at Makolea the black sand beach and then three days up at a beach in between Makalawena and Kua Bay. I like to call the second beach Sandy Roach. I seems to fit it nicely when night time roles around and the cockroachs come out by the hundreds. Pretty disturbing at first but you kinda get used to the little buggars as soon as you find they have been sleeping beside you in your tent. Well I have been slaying the fish so I have been eating like a king of late. I pulled a huge dumb ass and tried to haul my 25lbs of water across the lava fields and inevitably exploded two of my toes. Fortunately I proved myself wrong when I thought I broke my toe, so for that I'm pretty lucky. Other than that, my routine has been to swim and fish in the morning and to read and nap in the afternoon. Weather has been fantastic and the water nice and calm. Tough life I'm livin'.
